A Conversation with Ken Segall, Apple Ad Man

Last night I went to hear Ken Segall speak at the Eller College. Ken, an ad exec, worked closely with Steve Jobs for over 12 years, originated the iMac name, and helped develop the Think different campaign. The audience was filled, a smattering of undergraduate and graduate students, community members, faculty and staff. Ken is a soft-spoken guy, very approachable. And wise. [read full blog entry]

Congratulations to Michael Schneider (shown above second from left), Vice President of Customer Operations with Sempra Energy, who was honored with this year’s Alumnus of the Year award by Eller Undergraduate Programs. Schneider was surprised with the award by Eric Kelley (above left) in Kelly's FIN 360: Quantitative Financial Management course. Schneider comes to the UA annually to present on the energy industry in Kelley’s class, and also takes pride in hiring fellow Wildcats — nine since 2006. He holds an MBA from George Mason and a bachelor's degree in economics from UA. He serves on the Board of Directors for both the Greater LA Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Junior Achievement of Southern California.
Accounting Students Volunteer to Prep Taxes for Tucsonans in Need
Accounting undergrads have spent over 140 hours processing tax refunds for Tucsonans in need through a partnership with United Way and the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
Eller MBA Jumps 13 Points in U.S. News Rankings
The Eller Full-Time MBA program moved from #57 to #44 in the 2014 graduate rankings conducted by U.S. News and World Report. This is the second year of upward momentum for the program, which was named an “MBA Program on the Rise” last year. [more]

The percentage of publically-traded companies with lawyer-directors doubled over the period from 2000 to 2009. Now a new paper by Assistant Professor of Finance Lubomir Litov is the first to analyze the value of these legally-trained directors on public boards. [more]
