Lexi Shinn (Eller Accounting ’13) was raised an Arizona State Sun Devil. But when the time came for her to choose the college she would attend, she made the bold decision to stray from her family and become a Wildcat.

The decision couldn’t have turned out better for Shinn. Shortly after arriving freshman year, she declared a pre-business major. Once she took Accounting 200 with lecturer Christine Borowec, she knew accounting would be her major. Shinn said that she became so excited about her new major that she attended every Eller-hosted event with accounting speakers and participants. She also attended the annual “Meet the Firms” event to network with accounting professionals, which led her to participate in externships and national conferences with some of the Big 4 firms.

Shinn’s dream job is to be a partner at an accounting firm or to work with the national headquarters of Greek sororities, the National Panhellenic Conference. She is already on her way to achieving one of those goals: she has an audit internship with Deloitte in Seattle this summer. Her passion for the National Panhellenic Conference stemmed from her membership in Chi Omega sorority. Through this organization, she was able to gain many leadership roles including 2011-2012 Panhellenic President. This year, she is one of six UA seniors recognized with a University of Arizona Foundation Outstanding Senior Award.

Shinn said that getting to know her peers and creating a close group within Eller made her college experience memorable. She has met some of her best friends at Eller, which lead them to join clubs and honoraries together. “It has been a blast going through the accounting recruiting process with them,” she said, “and I've been grateful to have my best friends in my classes.”
