Eller College of Business and Public Administration is preparing its students for the professional world with career development events this week
Career Showcase event brings over 60 companies to the College today.
TUCSON, Ariz. - Feb. 19, 2004 - The University of Arizona's Eller College of Business and Public Administration is pleased to announce two programs that are helping to prepare its students for the transition from the academic environment to the professional arena.
Career Showcase, a student-run event in its eleventh year, is being held today (February 19) at the College's McClelland Hall. Sixty corporations, government agencies, and non-profit organizations will interact with more than 1,500 students throughout the day. The event kicks off with a networking luncheon and then follows a career fair format with tables set up throughout the building. The event is coordinated and hosted by Delta Sigma Pi and the Eller College Student Council, and sponsored by Philip Morris U.S.A. Attendees include financial and insurance companies like Wells Fargo Financial, Merrill Lynch, The Vanguard Group, and GEICO Direct; retail businesses Target Stores, Sears, Roebuck and Co., PETsMART, and Bed Bath and Beyond; Enterprise-level corporations Intel Corporation and Raytheon Missile Systems.
On Saturday, February 21, more than 500 students will participate in the Eller College's Professional Admission Interviews, a process that continues to raise the standards of its student body. All undergraduate business students must apply for admission into the College during the second semester of their sophomore year. The application process is highly-competitive and is based on a student's cumulative grades, business grades, and personal contributions to the College, evaluated by a cover letter, resume, and interview. This process gives students preparation and training for hiring processes that they will experience when they graduate and looks for jobs. The students are interviewed by members of Eller College Associates, a group of successful recent alumni who are dedicated to giving back to the College. Eller College is the only undergraduate business program of its size nationwide to interview all undergraduate applicants.
Pam Perry, Associate Dean and Director of the Undergraduate Program, commented "We are proud of the partnerships between our students, staff, administration, corporate partners, and alumni to make these professional events so successful. These career development programs have directly affected and improved the quality and standards of the Eller College student body."
