Undergraduate marketing students at the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management developing promotional campaign for Chevrolet’s new Cobalt car line through a partnership with EdVenture Partners
TUCSON, Ariz. – March 2, 2005 – Undergraduate marketing students at the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management are gaining real-world marketing and advertising experience by participating in a program through EdVenture Partners, a company that brings universities and companies together.
The Eller College is working with EdVenture Partners for the first time to bring a real client into the classroom to work with marketing students in the College’s Advertising and Promotion Management course. The client, Chevrolet, selected the University of Arizona students to work on its marketing challenges after researching the demographics of its students and campus. Chevrolet felt that University of Arizona business students will provide a fresh perspective to marketing its Cobalt line of vehicles, which is targeted at the typical college demographic.
Chevrolet’s Cobalt advertising and marketing manager Marsha Bedford commented, “We are thrilled to have Eller student brain-power and creativity on our business. We believe that these students will help us align our sales and marketing strategy with creative execution to get results. Successful marketing is all about getting as close as possible to the target audience and this partnership allows us to do just that.” With a real budget provided by Chevrolet, the Eller College students will develop a marketing strategy and execute it by incorporating research, advertising, public relations, event marketing, sales promotion, and any other means that they believe will deliver results.
The students are organized into a fully functional marketing agency with the following departments: project management, research, public relations, advertising, published reports, campaign strategy and implementation, and finance. The Eller College marketing course is taught by adjunct instructor Ed Ackerley, who believes in preparing his students for their career path. Author of Creating Magic, Ed knows what it takes since he runs his own full-service advertising agency in Tucson called Ackerley Advertising. “This educational experience will make our students more prepared to solve company problems when they go out into the business world. Here at Eller, we think forward to give our students exceptional learning experiences while providing clients with measurable results,” commented Ackerley.
The students will work on the Chevrolet Cobalt campaign from January through May of this year. Crystal Cheney, a senior in the course, summed it up, “This is a great example of the high-powered learning experience at UA’s Eller College. My education is real-world and I feel truly prepared to go out into the market.”
