McGuire Entrepreneurship lauded by Fortune Small Business magazine
Entrepreneurship education at The University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management is again recognized for innovation
TUCSON, Ariz. – MARCH 7, 2006 – The McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship at The University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management continues to solidify its reputation as a premier program for entrepreneurial education.
The McGuire Center was named by Fortune Small Business magazine, in its February 28, 2006 issue, as a pre-eminent incubator of innovation, adding yet another accolade to its already long list. In summarizing the attractions of each of the ten leading programs, the article calls The University of Arizona’s McGuire Center “one of the oldest and most competitive in the U.S. Only 100 graduates and undergraduate students are accepted each year.”
Sherry Hoskinson, director of the McGuire Center, said, “This newest ranking only calls more attention to the excellence of the Center and its faculty. As entrepreneurship education continues its fast-paced growth, the McGuire Center appears again and again on the A-list. That’s not by accident. The focus on innovation and hands-on application at the nexus of the curriculum is unique, and it works.”
Since the first class graduated in 1985, more than 900 students have completed the McGuire entrepreneurship program. Students have launched more than 250 new ventures, and about one in ten program graduates are currently at the helm of their own company in diverse businesses within the state of Arizona. Other graduates head companies and organizations around the country and the world.
The University of Arizona’s entrepreneurship program is the only one in the country in the top-tier in all major rankings and listings. Select rankings, in addition to the Fortune Small Business recognition include:
- The Center was named #1 among public schools (#2 overall) in April 2005 by Entrepreneur magazine, the only measure of its kind in ranking entrepreneurship exclusively independently of other school disciplines, areas of focus, or reputation factors.
- In fall 2005, the McGuire program was ranked #8 overall and #4 among public programs by U.S. News & World Report.
- U.S. News & World Report also named McGuire as #11 overall and #5 among public programs in its annual graduate school entrepreneurship specialty ranking.
- The Princeton Review ranked Eller’s McGuire Center #8 among the nation’s “Most Entrepreneurial Campuses” (fall 2004). The placement distinguished the Center as the only program to earn top-tier ranking in five leading surveys of entrepreneurship education and support at U.S. universities.
