Collegiate Entrepreneurs Gear Up for New Venture Showcase
Students in Top-Ranked McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship at the Eller College Prepare for April 23 Final Event.
TUCSON, Ariz. – April 19, 2010 – A year of hard work for 100 students enrolled in the McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship at the Eller College of Management — just ranked fourth among public graduate programs by U.S. News and World Report — culminates Friday, April 23, with the annual new venture showcase.
All 24 new venture teams will present their concepts to a judging panel in a fast-paced “rocket pitch” format. The judges will select finalists to deliver in-depth, investment-quality pitches.
“One team will walk away with top honors, but this event is really a showcase for our amazing pool of talent,” says McGuire Center director Sherry Hoskinson. “McGuire students work hard to generate innovative solutions to a wide range of market problems, and push themselves to consider their ventures from all angles as they prepare for the final event.”
Among the 2010 ventures is Re+, which provides consumers with purified water through single-serve water bottle refill kiosks; Truckitnow.com, a Priceline.com for consumers who need to connect with movers; G Fabrications, which gives consumers the ability to design their own aftermarket rims; Just4Kidz, a supplier of Internet safety tools for parents; and InnovAid, which is focused on improving disaster relief response time.
Through a unique partnership with the James E. Rogers College of Law — the Business-Law Exchange — all McGuire teams work with law students to investigate the myriad legal issues surrounding their new ventures. New to the showcase this year, law students will present on issues in entrepreneurship and law that they’ve encountered over the year-long experience, as well as specific challenges they faced with this year’s venture teams.
In addition to the new venture showcase, the McGuire Center will present its annual awards. Since 1985, the Center has honored instructors, entrepreneurs, sponsors, and supporters committed to furthering innovation-focused education and research with an annual suite of awards, each designed to showcase contributions in a specific area.
