Dynamic Learning Community : Eller MBAs Connect with Alumni, Corporations in Bay Area

March 2012

Eller MBA students made great use of their winter break by travelling to San Francisco for a series of company seminars and a networking event. Ten students, including both first- and second-year MBAs, made the three-day trip. MBA students were given the opportunity to visit two companies each day and in their free time became better acquainted with their classmates.

The MBA career services team put together a diverse offering of companies, including Oracle, Nokia, Wells Fargo, Kaiser Permanente, and Wirestone. Jeems Lochridge, a second-year student, noted that the trip gave him “the opportunity to see a lot of different industries, ranging from finance and healthcare to marketing and IT,” and that “it gave me a feel for what a particular industry might be about.”

Both seminars and roundtable discussions yielded candid conversations with company representatives about industry, jobs, and corporate culture. “The company visits were very helpful because they gave us a view into their culture that you just cannot get from going to their website and looking at their marketing materials,” said Milad Khongar, a first-year MBA. “These visits also provided a chance for us to meet the people in charge of recruiting, learn about what qualities they are looking for in a candidate, and find out what students can do to stand out for specific positions.”
