Entrepreneurial Experience : Electric Bike Company Velocis Wins Over Judges at Year-End Showcase
By Liz Warren-Pederson
The 100 students in the McGuire Entrepreneurship Program concluded their venture development experience with an annual day-long showcase event on April 14. All 23 teams presented their venture concepts and plans in fast-paced “rocket pitches” before investors, judges, and others.
Five finalist teams were selected, and Velocis Bikes ultimately came out on top:
Velocis Bikes – a manufacturer of efficient, stylish, and cost-effective electric bicycles for commuters who are frustrated with traffic and rising gas prices.
Campus Teach – an automatic camera system for Universities that captures classroom lectures and a corresponding website which stores past lectures for replay accessible by each student.
Fitness Innovation Tools (F.I.T.) - an all-in-one digital fitness solution that makes working out a more interesting and motivating experience that is personalized to your needs.
Infusion Beverages – fruit juice blends are infused with a collection of ingredients proven to help reduce the risk of specific health concerns such as heart disease.
Justouch – a mobile touch pad ordering device that reduces restaurant labor costs and expands customer base by providing a unique interactive dining experience.
The McGuire Center also honored four business and innovation leaders: John Bardis, Fred Boice, Debbie Claggett, and Rick Myers.
The Center established its annual awards program in 1985 to recognize successful entrepreneurs as well as individuals who have gone the extra mile to support entrepreneurship education.
