Finance Undergraduate Programs
A Rigorous Four-year Finance Program
As a finance major, you will complete a rigorous four-year program consisting of two years of non-business and introductory business courses, followed by two years of specialization in finance.
Are you comfortable with computers and puzzles, interested in math and numerical analysis? Then consider a study in finance. Students are generally logical and creative, detail-oriented yet open to the big picture.
At successful completion of the four year finance major program, you will obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (BSBA).
Advising is Key to Structuring Your Plan of Study
All pre-professional and lower-division students obtain academic advising through College Advising in the Undergraduate Programs Office, Eller College of Management. A pre-professional advisor will help you plan your coursework to meet the admission requirements of the Eller College and a finance major advisor will advise you on core and elective requirements to complete your BSBA degree.
Career Opportunities
Depending on your career interests, you can pursue a position as a financial analyst in a large or small corporation, financial institution, investment firm, financial services, insurance or real estate.
Finance Curriculum
Aazam Virani, assistant professor of finance, introduces first-semester cohort finance major students to the language and basic skills used in financial study and analysis in FIN360, Quantitative Financial Management. Finance majors concurrently enroll in FIN360L—a one unit lab that requires student to demonstrate knowledge of basic financial tools.
The Finance core courses, FIN412 Corporate Financial Problems and FIN421 Investments, are taken concurrently and include a common case the last two weeks of the semester courses to draw on and apply the knowledge gained in both courses to a real-life business problem.
Senior-level electives are available on topics such as derivatives, financial intermediaries, real estate, applied portfolio management and international finance.
Throughout the coursework in your junior and senior years, there is a strong focus on teamwork and hands-on application.
CFA Exam Preparation
Students interested in taking the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designation exam, a globally recognized standard for measuring the competence and integrity of investment professionals, will find that the required courses for this major begins their preparation. Additionally, finance electives such as FIN422, FIN423, FIN431 and FIN460 are recommended to add to students' knowledge of required core competencies and the candidate body of knowledge covered on the examination.

Investments Club
The University of Arizona’s Investments Club aims to educate its affiliates and members of investing principles, market analysis techniques, portfolio management, philanthropic responsibilities and financial career opportunities. The Club strives to grant these opportunities through weekly meetings, trips to financial firms, engagement with alumni and local financial professionals and simulated stock competitions.
