Incorporating Active Learning Into Our Classrooms and Zoom-rooms: Clickers and Far More

Description: It’s well established that active learning techniques enhance student learning and engagement. Research also suggests that the benefits to active learning are particularly pronounced with the student populations currently underrepresented in economics. Yet many faculty think that active learning is only possible in small classes. Not so! In this workshop, I will introduce at least three active learning techniques that I’ve successfully used in classrooms with as many as 700 students. Some translate well to the Zoom environment; some you'll want to back-pocket for when we eventually return to in-person teaching. Bonus: I will likely also rattle off a half dozen or more interventions that you can implement to address gender and racial disparities in who continues in econ after principles.
