A Continuous Improvement Process for Teaching Economics

Through Cornell University’s Active Learning Initiative, the Department of Economics is now transforming its undergraduate core curriculum using active learning pedagogy. This has involved explicitly documenting course learning goals, developing standard assessments of those learning goals, creating and integrating a range of classroom activities, and evaluating the impact of the project on a several student outcomes. In this presentation I will describe how we plan continue the improvement process after the project is over by identifying promising potential changes in our courses, implementing those changes, measuring resulting learning outcomes and student attitudes at the end of the term, and analyzing the data as a standard practice every semester.
