BASIS Chandler Student Wins Silver at International Economics Olympiad!

Congratulations to Praneeth Annapureddy, rising senior at BASIS Chandler, Class of 2027, for earning a silver medal at the 2026 International Economics Olympiad (IEO), held July 12-19 in Shenzhen, China.  This is an impressive achievement.  The International Economics Olympiad is an annual competition for high school students in economics, finance, and business.  Contestants' complete economics and finance assessments and collaborate on a business case presentation before an international jury. The Academic Committee for the IEO is chaired by Vernon L. Smith, 2002 Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences, and a long-time former member of our department.  More than sixty countries participate in the Olympiad process with more than 600,000 students competing annually worldwide.

Praneeth was selected to represent Team USA at the 2026 IEO through the USA Economics and Business Olympiad (USAEBO), the US national qualifier. Praneeth placed top 5 in the US in a highly competitive and rigorous multi-stage process to become one of the only five students chosen by USAEBO for Team USA.  As noted above, earning a silver medal, Praneeth performed more than admirably in China for which he deserves to be highly recognized and congratulated.  What is more, the five-member Team USA placed sixth out of over fifty national teams that participated in the International Business Case Competition.
