Computer Database Specialist
Pia Montoya has been with the Economic and Business Research Center in the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management since 1977, after she graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor's degree double majoring in economics and romance languages. She is fluent in French, Spanish and Italian. She retired in June of 2005 but continues working for the Center part-time.
Over the years, Montoya built and managed the largest economic database in the state of Arizona supporting economic forecasting models, research projects, publications and EBR’s data reference services. She designed and produced the data tables for the quarterly publication Arizona’s Economy. She produced the 1993 and 2003 Arizona Statistical Abstracts, both of which won Awards of Excellence from the Association for University Economic and Business Research (EBRC’s peer organization of University-based research centers). Her primary responsibilities now focus on marketing and communications for Center activities, which includes managing EBRC’s subscription database.
She has been active in the State Data Center program of the Bureau of the Census and is a long-time member of the Bureau of Economic Analysis Data Users Group. She is a member of the Association for University Economic and Business Research (AUBER) where she served a two-year term on the board of directors.
