The University of Arizona Foundation’s Outstanding Senior Awards program was established in 1971 to recognize the outstanding performances of the University's best seniors.

Every fall and spring semester, the academic departments within the Eller College nominate one graduating senior from their major for this award.

The Arizona Foundation Outstanding Senior for the Eller College is selected by a committee who interviews the department nominees and weighs the candidates’ academic and extra-curricular achievements.

Marvin Fortman, Associate Professor Emeritus for Management and Organizations, became involved with the Eller College Student Council twenty years ago—the same year he received the College's Outstanding Teaching Professor Award. He has been there for the Council, a group of Eller students as active and involved as you'll ever find, year in and year out.

In honor of the students that mean so much to Dr. Fortman, he has endowed an award to the outstanding leader in the Eller College Student Council, awarded every spring semester.

The Robert Logan Nugent Award was established by the Alumni Association in 1964 and was named in memory of Robert Logan Nugent, the Executive Vice President of The University of Arizona when he died in June of 1963. Dr. Nugent served Tucson and the University for more than thirty years and was particularly devoted to guiding and helping Arizona's young men and women. He earned his M.S. in 1925 at The University of Arizona, was a professor of chemistry, dean of the graduate and liberal arts colleges, and vice president before being named to the second highest post at the University.

Candidates should have a record of accomplishments which exemplify the high ideals of Dr. Nugent; i.e., active and enthusiastic participation and service in community and University endeavors.

Eligible undergraduate students are those who have demonstrated above-average scholastic ability, citizenship, leadership, and promise for the future. Students are not considered based only on cumulative grade point average. These awards are for well-rounded individuals whose contributions through co-curricular and community activities and leadership are evident.
