Weather:
October in Tucson is absolutely beautiful. On average, you can expect perfectly clear blue skies and warm, dry weather (85F, 29C). The temperature does drop in the evening due to a lack of humidity (60F, 15C). The weather also makes it ideal for outdoor activities such as golfing, hiking, walking, or cycling, should you wish to add some extracurricular activities to your visit.
Travel Advice:
Tucson is located in the Southeast region of Arizona. Tucson International Airport (TUS) is approximately 20 minutes away from the university. Alternatively, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) is about 2 hours driving distance from Tucson, located in the center of Arizona.
Flying into and out of TUS is quick and easy. However, if you wish to explore north of Phoenix after the workshop, PHX may be more convenient (e.g., if you wish to visit Sedona or Flagstaff). In either case, public transportation to/from either airport is not a great option.
- If you fly into TUS, we would advise taking a taxi/Lyft/Uber to the Graduate Hotel. Once you are at the hotel, everything is within walking distance or you can ride the free Sun Link Streetcar.
- If you fly into PHX, we would advise renting a car (preferred), or using a shuttle service (e.g., Groome, FlixBus). Groome is easier and more frequent than the FlixBus and will drop you closer to the hotel.
- If you rent a car, you will be able to easily explore Tucson and the surrounding areas!
