Keisuke Hirano, APS Professor and head of the Department of Economics at the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management, has been elected a fellow of the Econometric Society.

UA Economist Keisuke Hirano Elected as Fellow of the Econometric Society

TUCSON,  Ariz. – November 8, 2013 – Keisuke Hirano, APS Professor and head of the Department of Economics at the  University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management, has been elected a fellow  of the Econometric Society.

The Econometric Society, founded in 1930, is an international society for  the advancement of economic theory in its relation to statistics and  mathematics. Fellows represent the highest authority of the Society, and are  elected each year in recognition of their contributions to economics.

Hirano joins Mark Walker, Eller Professor of Economics, as the second  Econometric Society fellow at the UA. Vernon Smith, who conducted his Nobel  Prize-winning research in experimental economics at the UA, is also a fellow.

Hirano develops methods for analyzing economic data and assessing the  impact of economic policies. His current work focuses on economic forecasting  and model choice, and on analyzing data from auctions and other settings with  strategic interactions.
