Yiqun Hu is a Pre-Business major graduating in May 2020. Last summer, Yiqun interned with Heraeus Material Singapore Pte Ltd in Singapore.

If you worked on a big project during your internship, please describe what you did to help. I have 4 projects. The first one is called the logistics project which require me to conduct a report with the data analysis about all the logistics spends including in 2017 and 2018 Q1.

The second project is called Silver Powder Update which require me to update the PowerPoint about the consumption of silver power. The next project is called commodities price track which require me to conduct a presentation report about the price trend such as, Brent crude oil, aluminum, lead and tin. I need to record daily price of each commodity. Then I need to use the data to help my supervisor decide whether we should continue the contract or not.

The final project is about the management of global contract. I need to upload the new contracts with the supplier and vendors into our company portal.

What did you find most challenging about your internship? At the beginning of my internship, I just know a little or basic knowledge about Excel. And I do not know what my supervisor wants for my project. Also, I had no idea about the different divisions or global unit of our company.

What advice do you have for other students that are also considering interning abroad?

Learn more about the company before the internship.

Choose the area you want when you find the internship.

Open your mind when you do the project.

Don’ t be shy about asking questions.

How did Eller (or your previous coursework) prepare you for your internship? Before the internship, we had a lot of pre-departure meetings, we talked about the local culture of the host country. And we learned some traditions, dos and don’ts. Also, I had ideas about the weather, the environment and the transportation situation.
