Oliver Schilke, assistant professor of management and organizations in the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona, has won the 2020 Western Academy of Management (WAM) Ascendant Scholar Award.

The west coast affiliate of the Academy of Management grants the award each year to a handful of early career management scholars who have demonstrated an exemplary record of research, teaching and service. Schilke will receive his award at the WAM conference in Hawaii in March 2020.

“The Ascendant Scholar Award acknowledges what we’ve known since Oliver joined us in 2014,” says Aleksander Ellis, management and organizations department head and Stephen P. Robbins Chair in Organizational Behavior. “He is an outstanding researcher who is impacting the field.”

Schilke’s research focuses on microinstitutional processes such as trust, routines and legitimacy, particularly related to interorganizational relationships, entrepreneurship and research and development. His areas of expertise also include organizational routines and capabilities, institutional theory, social cognition and strategic alliances and other types of collaboration

He joined the Eller College in 2014 after earning his PhD in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles. He also spent two years as a research fellow at Stanford University.
