Eller Finance Professor Featured as an Expert on WalletHub
Eller College of Management Finance Department Head and Thomas C. Moses Professor of Finance, Kathy Kahle, was featured as an expert in a recent WalletHub article on the cheapest car insurance companies in Arizona.
When asked if it is fair for companies to consider gender or age when setting premiums on insurance Kahle says that insurance is all about risk factors.
“Insurance companies get data on characteristics of people that are more likely to have accidents, and determine insurance premiums accordingly,” says Kahle. “Young people and new drivers are more likely to have accidents than more mature experienced drivers, and statistically, young men have more accidents than other groups. So, using age and gender is fair and is based on statistics.”
Kahle joined the Eller College of Management as associate professor in 2003 and was appointed the Thomas C. Moses Professor in Finance in 2014. Her research interests are around corporate finance, capital structure, securities issues, repurchases and insider trading. Her previous teaching experience includes the University of Pittsburgh. She earned her PhD in Finance from The Ohio State University in 1996.
