Christopher Porter '24 (BSBA Business Administration) is a Human Resources Process Specialist at Amazon.

What type of projects do you work on?

I am involved with projects that standardize or enhance site HR standard work. I actively work to remove barriers for site HR teams and continuously improve the overall Amazon associate experience. I use current and historical data to drive HR process improvement. I influence cultural change across North America for all fulfillment centers.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love being able to make a positive difference in other people's lives.

How has your experience at Eller helped in your role?

I have learned so much through Eller that I was able to immediately apply in my workspace. I have worked at Amazon for almost 7 years, and this is where I gained almost the entirety of my work experience. Through my time at Eller, I have developed a completely new perspective, and it has been eye-opening learning about the concepts I am familiar with, but applied differently, and on a global scale.

What do you find most challenging?

Given the scope of my role, I sometimes have to make extremely difficult decisions that impact a very large number of people. These decisions bear a great deal of responsibility and cannot be taken lightly. It has been super beneficial to work with teams and individuals that are supportive and helpful in times of need.

What advice do you have for other students interested in a similar area?

Everyone is different. In HR, it is important not to only understand it, but embrace it. Work - and lead - with empathy and kindness. Also, know yourself - this part is super important.

Anything else you would like to share?

I love what I do because it is all about the people. If you naturally have a passion for people (like me), consider HR. :)
