Jarrett Medina '23 BSBA (Operations & Supply Chain Management and Entrepreneurship) was a Global Supply Chain Development Intern at Whirlpool in Benton Harbor, MI.

What was the process for getting this internship/job?

The process for getting this internship was not easy. Out of 5,000 applicants, only 105 students have the opportunity of experiencing this role. It is a great experience and I learned so much from the recruiting process. For the global supply chain development program it takes 3 phases to earn this role. One personality test, and two phases of interviews. Hard work, providing the right curriculum, showing a great cover letter, exposing my skills in each interview, and providing what you can bring to the table is the right path to achieve this internship.

What type of projects do you work on?

I am currently working in analyzing and comprehending corporate sight and how each trade partner KPIs, SLAs, and C2S metrics in order to have the ability to track and measure performance to trade partners expectations. This results in understanding internally each process, partners, critical operations, and metrics they evaluate the company on.

What is your favorite part of the experience?

My favorite part of this experience is working in a corporate role that has given me the opportunity to impact the organization with my project. I had the experience of having one-on-one meetings with different senior roles in this company that have led me to network and learn from these team members. This company is a big advocate of life balance and has also given me the opportunity to enjoy involvement outside work with team members.

What do you find most challenging?

What I find most challenging about this experience is getting out of my comfort zone. This has led me to network with people from across the United States and obtain some knowledge that I will use in my daily life. It was a big challenge that I had to overcome in order to achieve my goal for the summer; but with ambitious hard work I have achieved this goal.

What are you learning?

Whirlpool is a company that loves to expose team members to learn and develop a well of knowledge. I have the privilege to work around a team from different backgrounds; and having the experience of cross functional collaboration has given me exposure to many different departments. From consolidating data, understanding trade partners core KPIs, developing ideal dashboards, process mapping, project management, to even comprehending a world-recognized manufacturing plant operational, was an entitlement to my future career.

How has Eller prepared you for this experience?

Eller is a prestigious college that has exposed me to many real world situations. Eller has provided me with knowledge and experience that has challenged me to always be learning and continuously improving. It has shaped me to be a leader, execute integrity, and have the spirit of learning and winning.

Anything else you would like to share?

In my short tenure at whirlpool, I developed a project that benefits the company. I created a proposal that exhibited my competence within the organization's vision and overall mission. Not only that, but I obtained necessary personal and professional attributes that I will continue to use for the remainder of my career.
