Olivia Lluberes '23 BSBA (Business Administration) was a Global Intern at Kessler Museum Merchandising in Barcelona, Spain.

If you worked on a big project during your internship, please describe what you did to help.

Kessler Museum Merchandising is a Spanish merchandising company which creates unique and customizable products for museums around Spain and the world. My tasks included curating digital content for the Museums social platforms, taking photos and editing the layout and quality for their company website, updating products on the company’s website to be made available to consumers, creating blog posts related to the museums that Kessler has partners with (blogs were written in both English and Spanish) and I wrote and designed newsletters to partners of Kessler in English, French, Spanish and Catalan. I learned many valuable experiences during this internship that has helped me expand my knowledge and skills. For my blog posts, I had researched and curated information in a creative blog that were related to companies and museums that Kessler had worked closely with.

What did you find most challenging about your internship?

The most challenging task that I was faced with was navigating the workplace in Spain and simple tasks that you wouldn’t normally think about. Adapting to changes such as working with a Spanish keyboard, the computer programs set in Spanish, language and culture barriers are all examples of things that I had to adapt to and overcome. Spain is not so concerned with the most up-to-date software so work projects might take a bit longer since more work is required. The digital marketing software was also something that challenged me. I was able to gain familiarity using WordPress, SEO imbedded links, photoshop, mailchimp and various social media platforms that I had never used before!

What advice do you have for other students that are also considering interning abroad?

Interning abroad was one of the best decisions that I have ever made and has impacted my professional and personal life beyond ways that I could ever imagine. My advice would be step outside your comfort zone and do things that you wouldn’t normally! Chose an internship that you are passionate about but also one that challenges you. Leave your mark on this world, you’d be surprised that you're more capable of achieving the unimaginable than you think you are.

How did Eller (or your previous coursework) prepare you for your internship?

Eller has shaped me to be a resilient, independent, and a goal-driven student essential for interning abroad.  Eller has also given me the confidence that I needed to believe in myself to accomplish an international internship that only 3% of American students can also say they have done! I strived to apply everything that I have learned academically to this internship experience to execute my tasks successfully and efficiently.
