Research conducted by Aazam Virani, assistant professor of finance, was cited in an October 26 Wall Street Journal article about the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved a rule that requires public companies whose financial statements contain errors to recuperate their executives’ bonuses and other incentives.
The article mentions Virani’s research examining the stock market reactions of S&P 1500 firms after the SEC revealed the proposed clawback rule back in 2015 finding that companies without existing clawback policies exhibited positive abnormal stock returns after the announcement.
