Internship Spotlight: Elena Videla, Frog Prince
Elena Videla '24 BSBA (Marketing) was a Global Intern at Frog Prince in Dublin, Ireland.
If you worked on a big project during your internship, please describe what you did to help.
Frog Prince is a Wedding Planning company that makes most of its profit in providing floral styling for ceremonies and venues. I have assisted on most of the significant weddings that have taken place in the last few months. One of the biggest unrelated tasks of the weddings was transferring information about upcoming weddings from one system to another. While the moving of software is not a wedding, it is a massive project of transferring valuable information necessary for the company to run through the season smoothly.
What did you find most challenging about your internship?
The company is going through a transitioning period, meaning there are at least six people in the office, and of those six consists of two American Interns, myself included. The quick turnaround of the incoming employees is becoming challenging since the other intern, and I are now a few of the most senior staff in the office. Given the season in Ireland, July is one of the busiest months for weddings within the year, causing significant strain to pull off at least seven weddings, sometimes four in one day.
What advice do you have for other students considering interning abroad?
I would advise those looking into interning abroad to be adaptable. No matter where you travel, there are going to be cultural differences that lead to work environment differences. The more you can communicate through those barriers and advocate for yourself in those situations, the more development and growth you can take from the experience as well as, and there are incredible experiences outside of the internship that you should take advantage of while abroad.
How did Eller (or your previous coursework) prepare you for your internship?
Eller is a great community of people willing to learn and work, cultivating a rich environment of like-minded people. The teacher, alongside the students, is working hand in hand to help create a more enriching learning environment. Learning about adaptability to changes has made it easier to take cultural differences and become more flexible. Many influences shape business and learning through Eller to deep dive into those changes helped with know that change is a part of the work environment, and the most crucial part is how you will fit in with those changes and make yourself valuable to the company
