The University of Arizona Eller College of Management family extends far and wide, yet they are always rooted in their Eller connection. With a recent announcement, the Eller College of Management is extremely proud of one of its own — alumnus Vijay Khatri.

Khatri, who graduated from Eller in 2002 with a PhD in management and a minor in computer science, was recently appointed the Rustandy Endowed Dean of the Leeds School of Business at University of Colorado Boulder.

“We wish to be among the first to extend a big congratulations to our own Vijay Khatri on this role,” says Karthik Kannan, dean of the University of Arizona Eller College of Management. “We know that as an alumnus of the Eller College of Management, he has all the tools and resources to exceed the expectation of this role for years to come.”

Provost Russell Moore made the announcement on the university’s website in late April. Currently, Khatri is the executive associate dean for strategy, innovation and technology at Indiana University Bloomington’s Kelley School of Business. In his current role, he spearheads Kelley’s strategic initiatives, integrates Kelley’s and the university’s global education initiatives and spearheads innovations in schoolwide processes, including the underlying systems for those processes.

Khatri is set to hold the CU Boulder’s first named endowed deanship with support of a $5 million gift from Tandean Rustandy. According to the university’s website, the Rustandy Endowed Deanship provides additional resources for the dean to create and execute a vision that continues the school’s impressive growth trajectory. As dean, Khatri will have complete discretion over the use of these funds.

In addition to the announcement, Moore stated: “Dr. Khatri demonstrates a deep and compelling understanding of the critical interrelationship between promoting a strong and welcoming culture and developing strong academic programs. He articulates a vision that is truly consistent with Leeds’ focus on ethics and social responsibility.”

In response, Khatri said: “The Leeds School of Business is known worldwide as a vibrant learning organization for creating impactful research and developing transformational leaders. I am honored to have the opportunity to stand on the shoulders of the remarkable leaders whose work has made Leeds a leading national school of business and a center of innovation. This is truly the opportunity of a lifetime.”

Khatri will take the position effective July 1.
