The U of A team’s strong finish was led in part by Eller student Ananya Singhvi BSBA (Economics and Marketing), who earned second place in the storytelling competition. In the Oxford debate category, Eller student Conner Hunting BSBA (Accounting) also finished in second place, helping to solidify the team’s overall victory.

Singhvi and Hunting were among 26 U of A students who participated in the event.
The competition is judged by a panel of 50 professionals from around the state and beyond, and students are evaluated on their ability to communicate clearly, think critically and engage thoughtfully with others—even when discussing challenging or controversial topics.
Students who place in the top three of each category receive generous one-time scholarships: $15,000 for first place, $12,000 for second and $5,000 for third. All student competitors also receive a $500 scholarship and are eligible for an internship or course credit.
The Regents’ Cup is part of an effort by the Arizona Board of Regents to promote critical thinking, creativity and a deeper respect for problem solving through civil discourse. All three of Arizona’s public universities earned the highest possible rating in the 2025 College Free Speech Rankings from the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE).
As the winning university, the U of A will hold the Regents’ Cup trophy on campus until next year’s competition.
