Gwendolyn Star '26 (BSBA Marketing) was a PR Intern at Ragdoll PR in Manhattan Beach, CA.

What was the process for getting this internship, job, or summer experience?

I applied for the PR internship at Ragdoll PR through LinkedIn. About a week later, I was contacted for a phone interview, where we discussed my background and interest in fashion and public relations. A week after the interview, I received an official offer via email. The process was efficient, and the communication throughout was clear and professional

What was a typical day like?

As a remote intern, I would start my day by logging on and receiving my first assignment via email. My daily responsibilities varied and included activities such as building media and influencer lists, sending outreach and follow-up emails, servicing press coverage for clients, drafting email pitches, creating social media content, and assisting with award submissions. I also contributed to brainstorming new partnership opportunities and helped design visual assets. Each day was different, which made the experience both dynamic and engaging.

What was your favorite part of the experience?

I really enjoyed creating visual assets like imagery and social media posts. It was a hands-on way to explore visual marketing for fashion brands and allowed me to be creative while learning practical skills. I also appreciated getting a firsthand look at how PR functions within the fashion and beauty industries, which are areas I hope to work in long-term

What did you learn?

I learned a lot throughout this experience. As a marketing student, I hadn’t been exposed to the press and media relations side of the industry, so it was eye-opening to see how products get featured in both large and niche publications. I gained valuable experience in writing effective pitches and learned how to be persuasive in just a few sentences. I also became familiar with the professional tools used in PR and marketing, which isn’t typically covered in my classes. This gave me a stronger understanding of how the industry works on a day-to-day basis.
