Caroline Brady BSBA ‘25 (Accounting and Management Information Systems with Global Business) was a Global Intern at UL Solutions in Singapore.

If you worked on a big project during your internship, please describe what you did to help.

Throughout my internship this summer, I worked with the Corporate Strategy/Mergers and Acquisitions team to assist them on 4 different projects. I started by working on a project about OSHA and international safety regulations, which introduced me to the importance of the testing and regulatory realm. My main project this summer was about the cybersecurity of connected medical devices such as pacemakers or insulin pumps. The other two projects I was helping on were about testing the biocompatibility of medical devices and lastly, the international high voltage cable market. My role was to do market research, prepare slide decks, and create “one-pagers” for the team to assist them in their research or with pre-acquisition due diligence.

What did you find most challenging about your internship?

A few challenging things about my internship were balancing travel, making new friends, and culture shock. I would say that the most challenging aspect to me was ensuring that I was exploring my host city after work. Usually when I came home after my internship, I would be fairly tired from the long commute and work from the day, so it took some effort to motivate myself to do things like go to a museum or find a new place to eat. Because I traveled almost every weekend of the trip, upon reflection, I could have benefitted from spending a couple more weekends in Singapore to take the pressure off of myself after work.

What advice do you have for other students that are also considering interning abroad?

Take the risk and intern abroad! Working halfway across the world as a college student is truly a once in a lifetime experience. I made so many friends from around the world and traveled around Southeast Asia with them. You will make the best memories and have the best stories, as well as new friends for life.

How did Eller (or your previous coursework) prepare you for your internship?

Eller and my previous coursework did a phenomenal job of preparing me for this internship, especially after my first semester of upper division coursework. I found that a lot of students on the program from other schools were envious of Eller’s connective and network-focused structure. Many of my peers, including my co-intern, expressed that they wished that their school could be as immersive as Eller is for us. I felt that my BCOM courses, especially BCOM 314, helped me the most this summer with my professionalism in the workplace.
