Garrett Becker '25 BSBA (Finance) was an Investment Analyst at Everest Holdings in Scottsdale, Arizona.

What was the process for getting this internship, job, or summer experience?

The process of getting this internship took lots of perseverance through networking. I've sent out hundreds of cold emails that led to some phone calls with professionals, and eventually an in-person meeting with the senior vice president at this company. A few weeks after meeting the SVP, I was relieved that my efforts paid off when I got offered the position on the phone.

What was your favorite part of the experience?

My favorite part of my internship was going on two apartment property tours in a day. I really enjoyed listening to what the investments team, the listing broker, and the property's leasing people had to say about the properties. Additionally, after seeing the properties financials on paper, it was interesting connecting that to the tangible property in person.

How did Eller prepare you for this experience?

Quantitative Finance Management with Dr. Virani helped me understand the reasoning behind what I was doing when I was underwriting properties using excel financial models. Furthermore, business communication with Mr. Delaney certainly helped me maintain my professional composure and communication skills, written and verbally.

What advice do you have for future students with a similar interest?

Whatever you want, go for it. I recommend getting assistance in crafting a good plan for reaching out to and meeting with professionals. I like to try to connect with the top people at companies since they are often the most experienced and have great advice.
