Internship Spotlight: Isabel Menne, Shamrock Foods Company
Isabel Menne '25 BSBA (Business Management) was a Human Resources Intern at Shamrock Foods Company.
What was the process for getting this internship, job, or summer experience?
I discovered the job on Handshake, and after I applied, the recruiter reached out to discuss my schedule and the logistics of the program. Following this, an interview with an HR manager was scheduled, and I received a job offer two days later. I was hired in March, and the program ran from May-August.
What was your favorite part of the experience?
My favorite part of the experience was the fact that every day was different. Each day brought something new, which kept me engaged and motivated. I had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with individuals from various locations, gaining insights from their unique perspectives. Additionally, the variety in daily tasks ensured that no two days were the same, providing a stimulating and dynamic work environment that I thoroughly enjoyed.
If you worked on a big project, please describe it:
The most significant project I worked on involved standardizing the onboarding process across warehouses within the enterprise, ensuring a more consistent and efficient experience for new hires. My team collaborated with leadership and local HR at each branch to identify opportunities for improvement. We then presented our findings to management for further action and implementation beyond our program.
What advice do you have for future students with a similar interest?
Take advantage of your group projects and use them as learning opportunities. One of our major tasks this summer was a group project that was presented in front of senior leadership at Shamrock, so having an emphasis on teamwork was monumental for us. Eller does a great job of exposing students to realistic group dynamics in the workforce. Have an open mind and find any way to add value to your teams. Emphasize your people and build as many connections as you can.
