Meena Mendez-Stark '29 (Business Management) was a Camp Intern in Sierra Vista, AZ.

The company provided transportation and living accommodations.

What was the process for getting this internship, job, or summer experience?

It was an application including a cover letter, followed by an interview, then finally in person training before starting the internship.

What was a typical day like?

Wake up by 7,  get the campers ready and head out to breakfast, afterwards there were many activities and presentations followed by lunch and dinner. We had no phones and little down time. Lights out was by 10pm and we had to make sure each camper showered.

What was your favorite part of the experience?

In general I loved the experience because I got to work with kids but ultimately my favorite part was being surrounded by such strong leaders. I got to learn from experienced leaders and really find a voice for myself. the atmosphere was very empowering.

What did you find most challenging?

Without phones it was a bit difficult to manage time, it was hard some days to make it to designated activities at the scheduled times because not only were we leading young girls (ages 8-9) but we had no easy access to clocks.

What advice do you have for other students looking for a similar experience, or advice for future students to be successful?

I think if given the opportunity everyone should pursue internships like this. My advice is that you need to be your biggest advocator and really just let your personality shine though.
