Alethea Caldwell is a pioneering healthcare executive whose career spans over 25 years of leadership in hospital administration, public health, and healthcare innovation. She holds a B.S. from Pacific Union College (1961) and an M.S. from UC Irvine (1973), which laid the foundation for her influential roles in both public and private sectors.
Her early career included leadership at Intercommunity Hospital in Covina, CA (1963–1971), followed by roles at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and UC Irvine Medical Center. In 1984, she became the founding CEO of University Medical Center Corporation in Tucson, AZ—one of the few women to lead a teaching hospital at the time—successfully transitioning it from a public entity to a nonprofit corporation.
Caldwell’s executive portfolio includes:
