6 Questions with Erika Kess, Computer Science and Film & Television '18
Q. How did you become interested in entrepreneurship?
A. I have always been fascinated by figuring out how things work, solving problems and trying to improve things. I am someone with a wide variety of interests so I enjoy how entrepreneurship plays an important role in every industry.
Q. Why were you interested in the McGuire New Venture Development Program?
A. The McGuire Program played a major role in my decision to attend the University of Arizona. While researching colleges, during my senior year of high school, I came across the program and felt that it was something I wanted to be apart of. I also met a former student in the program when touring the campus and he described the program to be an experience I did not want to miss out on.
Q. How do you plan to use your entrepreneurship education?
A. I plan to use what I learn in the program to help me with my future endeavors.
Q. How does entrepreneurship compliment the rest of your studies?
A. Entrepreneurship allows me to take what I am already learning in Computer Science and Film & Television about product creation and innovation and add the business knowledge of how to turn those creations into actual ventures.
Q. What is your dream career?
A. My dream career is to work in the tech and/or entertainment industry.
Q. What activities are you involved in outside of class? (Clubs, events, co-curricular activities, leadership positions, jobs, internships, etc.)
A. I am the director of Media, Opening Ceremonies and App Development for Hack Arizona and a Creative Services Intern at Arizona Athletics. I am also a member of the Women in Computer Science Club and was in the Eller ELITE program during my first year.
Hack Arizona's Opening Ceremony is Friday, Jan. 12 at 7:30pm in Centennial Hall.
