Description

From https://www-01.ibm.com/software/analytics/spss/academic/programs/map.html

Industry analysts have identified predictive analytics as the fastest growing software category for company spending. They also expect that the need for staff with these capabilities will outpace available skill sets in many organizations. This will mean that expertise in data mining and predictive analytics will be highly sought after for years to come.

To ensure that educational institutions have access to these leading-edge technologies and can prepare their students for these opportunities, we now offer the IBM SPSS Mining in Academia Program (MAP) as part of the IBM SPSS Academic New Deal. This program provides no-cost use of IBM® SPSS® Modeler Premium data mining and text analytics software for classroom teaching and research.

Obtaining SPSS Modeler

These instructions will walk you through how to use IBM's OnTheHub site to order and download IBM SPSS Modeler Premium Academic. This is not an instantaneous process. There are delays as your download request is manually approved by IBM to ensure your usage is for an academic course. In our limited experience, the delays are about 1-2 business days.

  1. Visit https://ibm.onthehub.com/
  2. Click on Register to create a new account on the system.
  3. Input your UA email address on the Organization-Issued Email Address line and click Continue.
  4. Fill out the Account Registration form with your name and a password. Be sure to select Students in the Group of which you are a member dropdown. When you're done, assert you're not a robot and click Register.
  5. Now you will wait for IBM's OnTheHub system to send you a confirmation e-mail. In our experience these come within minutes. The e-mails are from IBM Academic Initiative <noreply@kivuto.com> and will have a link within that you'll need to click to verify your account registration. If you don't receive an e-mail quickly, you may have to ask for it to be re-sent on the site and/or check your Spam folder.
  6. Once you've verified your account by following the e-mail link, you may Sign-In to the OnTheHub site with your UA e-mail address and the password you created.
  7. Once you're signed in, you can browse the IBM Academic Initiative software offerings. Be sure to select Students at the top to be in the right category. SPSS Modeler is within Data & Analytics -> Software -> SPSS and the license key is in Data & Analytics -> Licenses.
Click Add to Cart for both the software and the license.

  8. Once you have both titles in your cart, click Cart and click Check Out.
  9. Please review the Academic Initiative Program Agreement, and Accept it to continue.
  10. You will now have to fill out a short form explaining how your usage is compliant with this software license program. If you were an MIS 510 student, for example, you'd fill out the form selecting Graduate for level of studying, Information Sciences for the college/department, MIS 510 - Web Computing and Mining for the course you're taking, Data & Analytics for the course topic and you'd use https://www.eller.arizona.edu/programs/masters/mis/mis/program/courses for the course verification URL. Click Continue to submit your form.
  11. You will now Wait to be manually verified by IBM. This usually takes 1-2 business days. You will receive an e-mail from the DO_NOT_REPLY@ibm.com about your IBM Academic Initiative experience.
  12. Once approved, visit the IBM OnTheHub site, Sign In, go to your Cart and Check out the 2 SPSS items you had tried to order before.
  13. You will now be able to download the software and have a license generated for its use. Download and install the software.
