Advertising Management Students Work on Real-world Projects
This spring, Eller students enrolled in Ed Ackerley’s advertising management class have partnered with a number of local businesses to develop marketing campaigns. The goal is to benefit the local community while giving students real world advertising experience. The class will also work on a major campaign for the American Petroleum Institute, which is looking to recruit new graduates.
Ackerley’s class is broken up into several student teams that are responsible for managing the small campaigns. Each micro campaign connects the students to a real world client for which the students prepare and implement a marketing campaign. The clients include Kaplan Test Prep, Hartmann Real Estate, The Garden Kitchen, Tuller Trophy, El Continental Barber Shop, and the Stack Challenge App.
The major campaign for the American Petroleum Institute (API) is a collaboration through EdVenture Partners, which acts as a mediator between companies and college teams across the country. API represents the majority of oil and gas companies in the U.S. The oil and gas industry is growing at a rapid pace, subsequently creating a greater demand for skilled college graduates. EdVenture Partners has initiated a nationwide collegiate competition to target science, technology, engineering, and math majors. The objective of this competition is to create awareness of the bountiful career opportunities available within this rapidly growing industry.
“We are excited about partnering with API and the Tucson community,” said Holly Inglish, a marketing major enrolled in the class.
