The McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship partnered with Eller Social Innovation in the Eller Nextgen Nonprofit Leadership Certificate Program. Everything is changing for nonprofits. Nonprofit leaders face a variety of challenges: new funder requirements, higher donor expectations, tighter budgets, complex social problems, generational clashes within our own staffs, increased competition for resources. Eller’s new NextGen Nonprofit Leadership Program offers certificate programs that will provide business skills to equip leaders to meet these challenges and lead organizations through an uncertain and changing context.

In the first certificate program, Innovative Approaches to the Business of Nonprofits, McGuire Center Executive Director Joe Broschak co-facilitated a workshop with Primavera Foundation CEO Peggy Hutchinson titled “Using Lean Launch Principles to Measure Impact: How Do You Know Your Work is Making a Difference?” In the 3 ½-hour workshop, 30 nonprofit leaders were taught how to articulate and understand their organization’s mission and vision, how to measure the effectiveness and impact of their programs, and how to apply the Nonprofit Business Model Canvas to better manage their organization’s programs. The first certificate program was offered in Spring of 2016 with an additional certificate program planned for Fall 2016.

Eller Social Innovation is a program within the Management and Organizations department of the Eller College that brings together students, faculty, staff, businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders to make a positive and sustainable impact on our community today, to help solve complex social and economic problems, and to develop and retain better future leaders. The McGuire Center is a proud partner with Eller Social Innovation.
