Career Showcase 2017: The Largest Eller Recruitment Event Yet

On February 16, 2017, the Eller College of Management and Delta Sigma Pi hosted the spring Career Showcase. The purpose of the event was to give students the opportunity to meet with employers and potentially land a summer internship or full-time position. With 97 employers and over 700 students in attendance, the event made Eller history by being the largest Eller career recruitment event yet.

Jake Shepp and Rachael Ruberg, students who worked in conjunction with the Eller Professional Development Center to coordinate the Career Showcase, have been planning since September. 

"Being able to put on such a successful event for Eller and its students was an incredible opportunity that I wouldn't change it for the world," said Shepp. "Months of planning went into this one day, but now that it's over I couldn't be happier with the end result."

Students had the opportunity to download the Career Fair Plus app to track their favorite employers. The app included complete employer listings, an interactive floor plan, event details, announcements, and fair tips.

Eller hosted a launch party to get students excited and answer any questions they had before the event. Headshots were also provided to students at the launch party so their LinkedIn profiles would be ready just in time.

Immediately following the event, the Eller Unity Board hosted a Multicultural Networking Mixer. The intimate mixer gave top underrepresented students the chance to network with over 20 employers. 

"The mixer was amazing," said Tripp Twymann, president of the Eller African American Honorary. "It was an opportunity for recruiters and students to relax and have extended dialogue with one another about things that matter to them. Sometimes it's nice to have a conversation outside of the rush of a career fair, and based on the feedback we've gotten, I know everyone really enjoyed the change of pace.

"Personally, my favorite part came at the end of the mixer, when we all started taking group pictures using the Eller backdrop and the Eller Unity Board snapchat geofilter. Smiling, laughing, and taking pictures together isn't something that happens at career fairs very often, but it's something that happens when you develop real relationships, and I think that's what happened there."
