Externship Spotlight – Gabbie Beahm, Microsoft
Gabbie Beahm is a Pre-Business major set to graduate in the spring of 2021. This winter break she had an externship with Microsoft in Redmond, Washington.
Please provide a brief description of what you did during your externship:
I had a really awesome experience at Microsoft! I was introduced to a ton of different employees with a variety of job titles and was even given the opportunity to talk one on one about my personal goals and aspirations with many. I was able to sit in on different meetings and get a really good overall view at what it means to be a successful and productive worker. By being introduced to a variety of sectors, the externship allowed me to narrow down my final thoughts about the career I wished to pursue!
Why did you want to do this externship?
I wanted to do this externship because I was very undecided about what path I wanted to go down in the business world. This externship allowed me to gain hands on experience, and really helped me to narrow down my final thoughts before applying to the Eller College.
Please describe your externship experience:
I spent a whole work day at Microsoft learning about the Surface products. I attended multiple meetings and networked with a variety of professionals about their daily jobs and career paths. I was able to get insight into what a company is really looking for in an employee, as well as learn about what kind of skills I should strengthen before heading into the workforce.
What did you learn as a result of this externship?
I learned much more about the power of networking and creating relationships within a companies members. I saw first hand how important it is to have a strong bond between all sides, from engineering to marketing, in order to run a successful business. Each employee had a different educational background, but they all used their own knowledge to come together on projects.
Anything else you would like to share about your experience?
I would highly recommend anyone who gets an opportunity to complete an externship does.
