Eller College Honors Eight Alumni for their Achievements and Support

The Eller College of Management is proud to honor eight alumni for their achievements and successes in their professional lives as well as for their support of the University of Arizona. The Eller College is dedicated to discovering and sharing new knowledge that shapes the future of business to educate the next generation of responsible leaders, like these alumni, who embody the changing business world and possess the knowledge and drive to impact it. These eight alumni exhibit both the dedication and the drive necessary to make a difference not only in the professional world, but in supporting the next generation of business leaders.

 

Meet Anthony Wingate – Young Professional Achievement Award

Anthony Wingate, who has both a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from Eller, has spent 13 years with Vanguard Group, starting as the youngest retirement advisor to working his way to his current position of financial advisor in the firm’s most profitable division. He has also remained a loyal wildcat and dedicated supporter of Eller through organizing events and establishing the Wingate Family Endowment Fund.

 

Meet Daniel Fapp III – Sidney S. Woods Alumni Service Award

Daniel Fapp III earned an MBA from the Eller College of Management in 1993. Today, he is a senior vice president with Tucson-area economic consulting firm L.E. Peabody & Associates. Daniel has demonstrated his unwavering interest in and loyalty to the University of Arizona for years after his graduation with his and his wife’s establishment of the Dan and Christine Fapp Scholarship in Finance. This award is given to those who have been out of school for more than 15 years and have demonstrated loyalty to the University for at least five years.

 

Meet Dominic Ortega – Young Professional Achievement Award

After his graduation from Eller, Dominic Ortega became a Certified Information Systems Security Professional in 2018. This certification is very difficult to obtain and reflects not only his knowledge and skills but also his dedication to remaining at the top of his field. He is now the director of information security at American Express in Phoenix. The Young Professional Achievement Award recognizes alumni age 40 and under who have attained prominence in their field.

 

Meet Juan Peraza – Outstanding Young Alumni Volunteer Award

Juan Peraza’s commitment to the success of students at the Eller College of Management began while he was still a business administration student himself; Juan made it his goal to help his peers succeed by coaching them with his knowledge he gained from an internship with Goldman Sachs. He is now an associate investment banker with this company and has never stopped mentoring students. This award is presented to an alumnus or alumna who has been out of school less than 10 years and has demonstrated a continued support for the University for a minimum of two years.

 

Meet Kevin Stombaugh – Marvin D. “Swede” Johnson Award for Volunteer Service to Students

Kevin Stombaugh earned a bachelor’s in finance and accounting from the Eller College in 1991. After nearly 30 successful years in the public finance industry, he launched Public Finance Partners in 2019. Throughout his career, Kevin has remained a loyal wildcat, regularly donating to the Eller College and giving his time to support its students. The Marvin D. “Swede” Johnson Award for Volunteer Service to Students is given to an individual whose personal involvement with students has enhanced the quality of student life at the UA.

 

Meet Matt Lorimer – Slonaker Award

Matt Lorimer earned an accounting degree from the Eller College of Management in May 2007 and joined consulting firm Protiviti. Currently, he is the director of Protiviti’s Phoenix office. Since graduation, Matt has offered unwavering support to the college and the School of Accountancy. The Slonaker Award is given to an alumnus or alumna who has been out of school less than 15 years and has demonstrated continued interest in and loyalty to the university for at least five years.

 

Meet Sam Ashfaq – Slonaker Award

As an MBA student in the Eller College of Management, Sam Ashfaq hosted networking activities for his classmates and shared insights with the college on ways to introduce more student activities to the program. After graduation, his commitment to supporting students grew along with his successful career at Sunquest Information Systems. This award is presented to an almnus or almuna who has been out of school less than 15 years and has demonstrated a continued support of the University and its students for at least five years.

 

Meet Sumeet Aggarwal – Global Achievement Award

Sumeet Aggarwal earned a degree in management information systems from the Eller College of Management in 1999. Currently, Sumeet is a managing director with medical equipment supplier Midmark India. Recognizing the challenges faced by rural women, he works with the state government in Uttar Pradesh to provide free training so that women can become general duty assistants in the health care industry. The Global Achievement Award recognizes alumni who have brought honor and credit to the University of Arizona and their profession in the global arena.
