Eller Professor of Management Information Systems Joseph Valacich’s startup, Neuro-ID, recently won Tech Launch Arizona’s (TLA) Startup of the Year award at the TLA annual I-Squared Expo.

Neuro-ID, founded by both Valacich and his former student Jeff Jenkins ’13 PhD, produces technology that is geared towards helping various organizations to both fight fraud and reduce the friction that is often experienced in the digital interactions between company and customer.

“Neuro-ID is a rising star in the world of financial technology and innovation or ‘fintech,’” according to the TLA website. “Founded in 2015, the company has gone on to raise funding, improve and expand its offerings and expand its customer base. Through its many successful partnerships, the company’s technologies now touch millions of customers.”

Valacich is a fellow of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) and is a co-founder, chairman and chief science officer of Neuro-ID. He is a prolific scholar, publishing more than 250 scholarly articles in numerous prestigious journals and conferences. He also has multiple issued and pending patents focused on analyzing fine-grained human-computer interaction data to infer user intent and confidence. He earned his PhD in MIS at the University of Arizona in 1989. He also holds a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from the University of Montana.
