What is a STEM MBA?
A STEM MBA, also known as a STEM-certified MBA, teaches you to bridge the gap between business and technology through specialized programs.
STEM stands for “science, technology, engineering and mathematics” and generally relates to technical careers. An MBA isn’t designated as a STEM MBA by default, but many universities are now providing a way for students to combine the two tracks.
A STEM-certified MBA is a combination of both a business and technical education and offers a curriculum that is taught with an emphasis on STEM applications.
The Eller College of Management provides a few STEM-certified options through dual degree programs and the Technology Leadership Program:
- MBA/Master’s in Business Analytics Dual Degree
- MBA/Master’s in Finance Dual Degree
- MBA/Master’s in MIS Dual Degree
The Eller College of Management’s STEM-certified Technology Leadership Program prepares students for a career in the information technology field by providing unique technology and business learning experiences. Classroom-based learning is supplemented with group collaboration, consulting projects, case competitions and professional development, all completed in two summers.
International Benefits
STEM-certified programs allow a lot of benefits for international students, mainly with the extension to Optional Practical Training (OPT) provided.
OPT allows international students to stay and work in the United States for 12 months after graduating. Because U.S. companies have a need for STEM-trained individuals, those who graduate from STEM-designated programs are given the opportunity to apply for a 24-month extension to their OPT, for a total of 36 months (three years).
