Internship Spotlight: Amanda Perez, Deloitte

Amanda Perez '22 BSBA (Finance) was a Risk and Financial Analyst Intern at Deloitte in Phoenix, AZ.

What was the process of getting this internship, job, or summer experience?

I applied for my internship in Spring of 2021. I found it on handshake and had to go through three interviews, they varied from behavioral and situational. 

What was a typical day like?

The day always started around 8 am, and we had a meeting with the team where we went over what we have finished and what we need to do. We then were assigned our tasks for the day and we even got the opportunity to talk to clients if we needed to. As an intern I learned a lot and I did a lot of work. The full time employees were so helpful and everyone was so nice it was an amazing experience. 

What was your favorite part of the experience?

My favorite part of the experience was getting a taste for work life, as well as the people they were so helpful and the environment was amazing. 

If you worked on a big project, please describe it below:

We worked on a lot of projects for clients and had to make sure all risks were mitigated. 

What did you find most challenging?

I found the most challenging aspect was that what I was doing was something I have never learned before. 

What did you learn?

I learned how internal controls work as well as how to mitigate risks. But most importantly, I learned how to expand my soft skills. 

What advice do you have for other students looking for a similar experience, or advice for future students to be successful?

I would get ahead of the curve and apply for an internship early because thats when you will have the best opportunity to get into the one you want!

Eller prepared me by giving me a strong backbone of experience to get my foot in the door.

Yes! Deloitte is such an amazing company. They make sure you always have help and will go above and beyond to be there for you. They are very considerate and overall great people. 
 

I received a full time offer and will start in July 2023!
