Eller Economics Student Wins Robert Logan Nugent Award
Kristijan Barnjak ’23 BA (Economics) received the 2023 Robert Logan Nugent Award at the University of Arizona’s 159th Commencement ceremony on May 12, 2023. The Robert Logan Nugent Award goes to a student who displays a record of accomplishments that exemplifies the high ideals of Robert Logan Nugent—former University of Arizona executive vice president.
Barnjak graduated suma cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy, politics, economics and law, a Bachelor of Arts in economics and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with an emphasis in ethics.
During his first year at the university, Barnjak became a part of the community at St. Thomas More Catholic Newman Center and became a student minister and served on the center’s outreach committee. He was also a member of the Daily Wildcat, serving as a reporter covering the Associated Students of the University of Arizona and the university’s efforts to mitigate COVID-19. He was then appointed editor-and-chief during the fall 2022 semester.
Barnjak’s honors thesis focused on the state anti-boycott laws passed in reaction to boycotts on the firearm energy companies as part of corporate environmental, social and governance initiatives.
