Sowadhana Sim '26 Singapore
Sowadhana Sim '27 (Economics & Business Analytics) interned at R3 in Singapore.
If you worked on a big project during your internship, please describe what you did to help.
I supported by preparing foundational work for financial audits. This included organizing, filling, and checking the tools and financial information to ensure that everything was accurate and complete before the analysis began. I also studied the client’s financial numbers through their statement and conducted research on the market to understand the industry trends and benchmarks. By analyzing both direct and indirect competitors as required, I helped to assess whether our client is meeting the benchmarks or standards of the industry.
What did you find most challenging about your internship?
The most challenging part was catching up to the speed of my colleagues, especially since I joined during a busy season. Everyone was already well-adjusted to the fast-paced workflow and efficiently handling their tasks. As a newcomer, I had to quickly learn the processes, tools, and expectations to avoid slowing the team down. It was a steep learning curve, but I pushed myself to adapt quickly so I could become a valuable resource and actively contribute to the team’s progress.
What advice do you have for other students that are also considering interning abroad?
Interning abroad is a great opportunity to experience different parts of the world and gain insight into how work is done in other cultures and environments. It allows you to step out of your comfort zone, adapt to new ways of thinking, and develop a more global mindset. You’ll learn not only about the industry but also cultural values, communication styles, and workplace dynamics that may differ from your own. It’s a unique experience that broadens your perspective both personally and professionally. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to grow and challenge themselves.
How did Eller (or your previous coursework) prepare you for your internship?
Eller prepared me for my internship by giving me a strong foundation in business concepts, analytical thinking, and communication skills. Courses in accounting, finance, and business analysis equipped me with the technical knowledge I needed to understand financial data and audit processes. Group projects and presentations also taught me how to collaborate effectively and communicate my ideas clearly, which was essential when working with my team. The emphasis on professionalism and problem-solving at Eller helped me to adapt quickly to the fast-paced environment.
