Namrata Singh is a senior from San Jose, California, currently studying marketing at the Eller College. Given Singh’s passion to get involved and work ethic, it is no surprise that she has recently accepted an offer into Gap Inc.’s competitive Rotational Management Program. Singh will graduate with her BSBA in May 2016, but should be confident that she has left a lasting impression on the Eller College, UA, and the Tucson community.  Check out Singh’s responses to our eight questions.

Why did you choose UA?

I wanted something different from the typical California school but I did not want to go too far away. I visited the campus and the Eller College and I realized it was a great fit for me!

What made you choose your major?

I have always loved marketing and how vast it is. I realized how many jobs and positions require marketing skills. I became very interested in the digital and analytical aspects of marketing through previous classes and jobs.

What type of relevant professional experience have you had or currently have?

I currently work as a professional development associate in the Eller College Professional Development Center. I focus on helping students achieve a higher level of professionalism through resume, cover letter, and interviewing help. Last summer, I interned with Macy's in Palo Alto, CA. Previous job experiences include various on-campus jobs and time spent working for a South Asian entertainment show as a co-host.

How have you been involved on campus so far?

I am involved in Delta Sigma Pi professional business fraternity, Multicultural Business Student Association, and Eller Unity Board.

Have you held any positions?

In Delta Sigma Pi, I have held the position of Large Event Coordinator and am currently Vice President of Professional Activities. In MBSA I have held the positions of secretary, social media chair, and I am currently the president. In Eller Unity board, I am currently the social events chair.

What has your involvement or professional experience taught you?

My involvement and professional experiences have taught me the value of good networking and teamwork skills. In every activity or job I have held, I have had the chance to meet people from different backgrounds and perspectives. Creating lasting relationships with the people I meet and work with has helped me tremendously in my professional and career development. Another great thing I have learned is to "Bloom where you are planted." Not every position or job I have held is glamorous, but being able to learn and grow no matter where I was has helped me open a lot of doors.

What is your plan for the rest of college?

I am half way through my senior year, so things are winding down for me. I still have the great opportunity to hold leadership positions in the clubs I am involved in, so I will be putting a lot of time into those. I also hope to attend as many Eller events and Tucson wide events as I can before I graduate.

What is your plan for after graduation, or what would you like to do after graduation?

I love retail and the business involved in the fashion industry. I have always wanted to work with a large clothing brand in the future. After a long and tough interview process, I accepted a full time offer with Gap Inc. in their San Francisco headquarters. I will be in their Rotational Management Program, learning all the functions in retail: merchandising, product design, inventory management. I am really excited to start the next journey!
