Moving Up in Aerospace: Cascade Mittman '10 BSBA (Accounting and Operations Management)

Cascade Mittman’s experience in the aerospace industry started during an internship with Northrop Grumman in summer 2010. In 2011, she joined the company full time in material requirements planning and is now a subcontract administrator. In this position, she manages subcontracts with an international supplier, including negotiating contract changes and maintaining schedule alignment in order to support program affordability initiatives.

Her initial internship experience gave her an opportunity to see the company’s different departments work together as a unit, and now she applies that knowledge and her previous experience in material requirements planning to focus on specific details that can have a significant impact on the supply chain on a larger scale. 

Mittman credits her Eller experience with giving her insight into how to target and advance leadership styles toward a common goal, both of which have been vital to her professional success to date. “I would not be where I am without Eller,” she said. “The College gave me such a solid foundation and I want to make sure that continues and gets even greater for future students.” 

While at the UA, Mittman was a member of Alpha Kapa Psi, which she says helped her with her interviewing skills and to build confidence in the business world. She also performed as a cheerleader her first year and did a stint her sophomore year as UA mascot Wilma. Mittman continues to support the Eller College in a variety of ways, from ensuring that Northrop continues to recruit from the UA to serving as a class captain in the recent Show Your Love for Eller Class Challenge.

During her four years in Southern California, Mittman has continued to deepen her skill set, having completed the American Production and Inventory Control Society’s (APICS) certification and working on a masters in supply chain management from the University of San Diego. She serves on the board of the Los Angeles APICS Chapter, which provides networking and extended education opportunities to operations professionals in the area.  Despite her fondness for her adopted home, Mittman said that her “heart will always be in Tucson.”
