Externship Spotlight – Becca Gibson, Oakland Raiders

Becca Gibson is a pre-business student graduating in 2020. This winter break, Becca had an externship with Oakland Raiders in Alameda, California.

Why did you want to do this externship? I wanted to do this externship to give me exposure to the sports industry and to learn how their business operated.  I had an interested in sports prior to this externship and hoped this opportunity would give me better insight and guidance to what I wanted to major in.

What did you do during this job shadow experience? For half a day, I followed the Senior Manager of Corporate Partners at the Oakland Raiders and learned about different marketing and sales strategies within the sports industry.  She introduced me to colleagues of hers in ticket sales as well as general sales to expose me to different careers. 

What did you learn from the externship? I learned that there are many different types of marketing that I wasn’t aware of and that the sports industry is much smaller than I had anticipated.  I also learned how a professional football team operates behind the scenes, getting sponsorships, ticket sales, and much more.
