Internship Spotlight: Johara Mohammed, Goldman Sachs
Johara Mohammed '23 BSBA (MIS and Operations & Supply Chain Management) was a Summer Analyst Intern at Goldman Sachs in Salt Lake City, Utah.
What was the process for getting this internship/job?
I was in search of a technical and/or operational opportunity and eventually connected with Eller’s very own Jeff Welter who steered me towards the right direction. He suggested the firm during a Zoom call and I pursued the application process from then on!
What is your favorite part of the experience?
The people! I didn’t anticipate how amazing the people here would be and how much of an impact they’d have on me. Just over the course of 9 weeks I’ve learnt so much from those around me and grown both personally and professionally. There’s so much diversity within the firm that provides you with the opportunity to expand your horizons. However, it’s fair to say that the beauty of Salt Lake City is a close second!
What do you find most challenging?
The most challenging part was exploring an industry I had no real knowledge of previously. The mass of knowledge I had yet to learn was truly overwhelming at times. However, I had to be mindful and remind myself to take it one day at a time. What truly helped was a saying my manager would reiterate to me, “It’s a marathon, not a sprint.” Take things at your own pace, stay mindful and present, and the rest will take its course.
What advice do you have for other students looking for similar experiences?
Be persistent! The search for an internship is not always the easiest but persistence is key. Don’t give up and make sure to leverage your network, it’s all about finding the opportunities
