Terry Lundgren, former chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s Inc., visited the Eller Marketing Department on November 4, 2021.

Marketing faculty and students from American Marketing Association UArizona Chapter, AdCATS student club and the Master of Science in Marketing (MSM) Program welcomed Lundgren and enjoyed the insight he shared about retail, marketing and leadership.

Lundgren is an alumnus of the University of Arizona. He came to campus in 1995 to give hundreds of students an inspiring presentation titled “From Campus to CEO.” Since then, he has been invited back to the University of Arizona to receive an honorary doctoral degree and to serve as a commencement speaker. More recently, he received the University’s most prestigious alumni award.

“Terry is one of the most respected business leaders,” says Marketing Department Head and Robert A. Eckert Endowed Chair in Marketing, Yong Liu. “His achievements in retail merger and acquisition, branding and private label strategies and retail localization all had profound impacts on retail practice. Eller is very proud of the connection with Terry, and we look forward to collaborating with him on educating the next generation of marketing and retailing leaders.”

Lundgren served as CEO of Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury for 14 years. He retired in 2018 after serving as executive chairman. Before Macy’s, he was CEO and Chairman of Neiman Marcus, where he began working at the age of 37.
