Student Teams Bring Ideas to Life at 2026 New Venture Competition
Student innovation took center stage at the McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship New Venture Competition on April 24, where teams pitched ventures they’ve been building all semester as part of the New Venture Development Program.
Designed as a full-day, Shark Tank–style event, the competition marked the culmination of months of work. Throughout the academic year, interdisciplinary teams conducted market research, developed their products and refined their ideas with support from mentors, faculty and industry professionals.
At the New Venture Competition, ten teams presented their ventures to a panel of judges from the business community:
- Scrubala – A modern electric dish scrubber designed to improve kitchen efficiency
- ANKOR – A multi-functional assistive clothing device for individuals with limited grip strength or mobility challenges
- Eara – An open-ear hearing filter that helps users hear clearly in noisy environments
- FundDraft – An AI-powered platform that helps grant writers find funding and draft proposals
- Quadshot – A four-in-one outdoor target game combining multiple sports into one setup
- Barricade Blinds – Window and door coverings that function as everyday shades and can deploy into bullet-resistant barriers
- EvoWipes – Biodegradable, nontoxic antibacterial wipes safe for surfaces and skin
- Ilium – An ergonomic hip thrust pad designed for comfort and performance
- Rabbit – Augmented reality sunglasses that display real-time training metrics
- Tabi – An effervescent tablet that turns water into a smooth, drinkable coffee
After a day of pitches, Q&A and deliberation, Barricade Blinds earned first place for its innovative approach to safety. Tabi secured second place with its sustainable take on coffee consumption, and Eara placed third for its accessible, user-centered hearing solution.
This event reflects the core of the McGuire New Venture Development Program: bringing students, experts and business leaders together to build something beyond the classroom. Open to both undergraduate and graduate students across the University of Arizona, the yearlong program challenges participants to develop a venture from the ground up, equipping them with the tools, mindset and experience to lead in an ever-evolving business landscape.
